Does Alcohol Intake Cause Increased SGPT Levels?
Question: Hello,
My SGPT level is 81 and SGOT 34. Want to ask is Alcohol the reason of rise in SGPT levels? I do have outside junk food but have stopped completely after I did my tests. have been taking liv.52 since a week now. can I continue drinking? I usually have around 2 liters of beer every couple of days. Please advice.

Though your increase in SGPT is mild but the cause is most likely alcohol. Alcohol can damage the liver and increase in SGPT is initial step. This will become normal once you quit drinking.
I suggest you to stop drinking for one month and take liv52 till then and repeat liver function test again. If it has become normal then reduce drinking or better quit drinking. If there is no change then other causes of raised SGPT needs to be ruled out.
