Does An Open Abscess During Non-penetrative Sex Increase The Chances Of HIV?
Question: Hi-- I am pretty sure I know the answer here, but wanted to be sure. I'm a male who met up with another male (who said he was tested and negative in september) last night and we made out. Our boxers were on the entire time (occasionally the penis slipped out of the front). Had this been the extent of the circumstances, I wouldn't even have thought about it again. However, this morning I noticed I had an ingrown hair abscess pop at some point (I could see the mucus residue on my boxers -- also, I am taking clindamycin for the abscess). Let's assume it popped before or during our make out/grinding session. I know making out and grinding w underwear on is about as low risk as you can get of a sexual activity, but would the open abscess (underneath the boxers on my leg) change your take on the session? Thanks for your help.
Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM
Detailed Answer:
The risk is less than low, I would say negligible. Abscess is not considered to be the same as opened wounds and this isnt increasing risk of transmission of viral pathogens. Prolonged contact of body fluids and body mucosaly layers such as rectum and anus is necessary for transmission of HIV,hepatitis and STDs.
Abscess is caused by bacterial infection which is rarely related to sexual intercourse so just treat it as any other abscess, Wish you good health. Regards
