Does Avoiding Dairy Products Delay The Healing Process Of Avulsion Fracture?

Nothing ''too'' exciting, but I earned an avulsion fracture on holiday from a step (rolled the ankle) (not a XXXXXXX fracture) on the 5th met. NWB for 3 weeks, after that back in trainers with some minor discomfort. Wk4 x-ray show no union, no smearing , I happened to say I am allergic to dairy. Has this effected the healing times? I have just gone and bought some calcium and magnesium tablets from the healh shop. I'll have another x ray in 6 weeks and go easy. Hopefully all will be well. Do these fractures heal well even if I am using my foot somewhat, I am not returning to the running machine just yet. A GP does not seem to be aware of the nuances with this fracture. The GP even said I'm not a surgeon but you may need a pin in it! huh?! ANd what happenens if I just leave the thing and get on with life with no pain? Does the gap heal in time?
It will heal gradually.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
An avulsion fracture of 5th metatarsal usually heals well in 4-6 weeks. At 4 weeks the callus formation and healing may not be evident in X-ray. Not taking the dairy products may not affect the healing much. Taking calcium and magnesium supplements will help.
It is better not to do excessive exercise for another 2-3 weeks.
Even if you leave it like that the gap will eventually heal. Surgical correction is not usually needed.
I hope this answers your query.
