Does Change In Blood Pressure Cause Blood Clots?
Question: I am 37 years old. I had a blood clot that traveled to my eye and is lodged there. After numerous blood tests that came back normal and an ultrasound of my neck arteries all that was good too. So I have been asked to track my blood pressure for a week. After multiple readings 155/100 or normal 145 /88 and then back up to 160/100. Does it sound like the blood pressure is the reason for blood clots. And will meds help this

Mostly when such a senerio occurs you try to find the source of clot which may be the neck arteries, the heart and other rarer sites like aorta.
Per say increased pressure doesn't cause clot formation, but all the readings you mentioned are in the higher range and should be treatment
Try maintaining blood pressure. The above systolic BP under 135 and below diastolic BP under 85 for better recovery.
Do start the medication prescribed by your doctor.
Restrict salt in diet to less than 3 gms
Try getting a trans esophageal echo cardiography if all reports are normal to look for patent foramen ovale to rule out paradoxical emboli from venous circulation like leg veins.
All go through complete history once again to look for any new medication or supplement you are taking or any systemic cause work up which may increase the chance of clot formation. Uploading reports may help me guide you better. Regards

I had taken phentermine for a short time. Would that have caused something like that

I have not taken it in 6 weeks would it still cause increases blood pressure?

Senerio 1: So if your pressure were normal when you were taking phentermine and has increased in just the last week, than most probably it may not be the reason.
Senerio 2: if you didn't measure your blood pressure when on phentermine, so we may assume it was still higher than the present reading and slowly body is normalising it.
Senerio 3: if you were phone to hypertension, and phentermine just pushed it up.
Now in all senerio, if the present reading are high and in context of a recent onset Stroke(retinal clot is considered stroke in medicine). It is important that we control it with diet, exercise (light aerobic presently) and if needed medication, and if the reason of high BP was phentermine, with time we will be able to taper down the dose of medicine and stop it gradually.
Also here your other risk factors for hypertension like obesity, dyslipidemia, age, family history may play important role.
