Question: Occasionally I have an irregular heartbeat it will last from just a few minutes to 24 hours. The last episode (24hrrs) I had BP as low as 87 /47 . I also did not feel well? Some times I can associate the episode with food alergies, this time it pop up after missing a flight connection and spending the night in the SFO airport. I'm 82 and have no health issue that require medication. XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

After going through the medical details provided by you i would like to tell you that the feeling of irregular heart rate could be due to some rhythm abnormality which is also causing the blood pressure to go down and sense of illness.

Its advisable that you should personally consult a cardiologist and get an ECG as well as a Holter Monitoring done to rule out any transient arrhythmia that might be happening.

I hope this information wil lguide you properly.

These irregular rhythms are a rare occurance. However this last episode lasted a along time (24 hrs) I'm a jogger and run several 10k a year, I'm currently not irregular --- if I were to take an EKG etc. When my heart not missbehaving I believe it would tell me nothing, axcept my heart is in good condition. My normal BP 120/70 Rate 60 my reading about two hours ago 87/47 92 should I wait for another episode and then go in to emergency care.

Hello Again

Detailed Answer:
Yes you are right. When you are feeling alright the ecg won't show anything. It's good if you you can get an ECG during the time of the occurance or else you can go for a 24 to 48 hrs ambulatory Holter Monitoring which records your ecg continuously through the period of it attachment on you body and later a doctor will go through the recordings. If some event happens during this period it can be recorded.

I hope this information will answer your query and guide you properly. If you have any other doubts you can ask me back or else you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.

Kind Regards
