Does Chemotherapy For Lung Cancer Affect Stents Of Heart?
Question: I am just wondering I had 2 bare metal stents done on April 25 of this year noe I will need to receive chemo for lung cancer (removed by vats ) April 23 not sure how this will affect my heart and how they will obtain access ?
Brief Answer:
Few drugs cause heart problems
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.
Chemotherapy for lung cancer shall not affect your stent.
Not all chemo drugs for lung cancer affect your heart. However chemo drugs such as high doses of doxorubicin (Adriamycin) and cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan, Neosar) cause swelling of the heart muscle, problems with the heart’s ability to pump blood (congestive heart failure), or heart disease.I were to avoid these medications or reduce the dose especially if you are above 65 years.
These drugs are given intravenously by infusion and cycles are repeated which vary according to regimen.
Hope this answers your query.
