Is It Normal To Have Fever After Undergoing Mastectomy?

My mother is 61 year / F/ Height- 150cm / weight 62 kg

my mother has operated for breast cancer right side breast circular mastactomy on 16th August 2010. All the 14 lymphnodes are also removed. The lump size was 3.50 cm. It is classified as T2N0M0 Grade-IV Breast cancer.

She has been given FEC (Fluorouracil (5FU)-800 mg, epirubicin-140 mg and cyclophosphamide-800 mg) first dose on 11th Sept 2010. First seven days she was ok. On seventh days she has developed fever 102 F. Her total count was 3400, N-72%, L- 24%, Hb- 8.7gm/dl, Platlets-152000 on 18th Spt 2010. she was first given Cifran 500+Seftum 500 for 4 days and then cifran 500+ Augmentine Duo 1000 for 4 days. Fever subside on 25th sept 2010. doctor stopped all medicines except iron & Vitamin capsules. Fever reoccured on 27th sept 2010 this time it was 100.6 F and subsides in 4 houres without giving any medicine. After 1 months 10 days she still develop fluid in her operated breast area. my doctor says these are the side effect nothing to worry. my mother is getting weak day by day after giving chemeo.

are we on right course of treatment? is it ok to develop these complications? next chemo is due on 2nd Oct 2010

Fluid accumulation can occur after surgery and there is nothing to worry about it. It resolves on its own with time. Fever is a cause of concern and she should get evaluated for that.
