Question: Can dehydration cause PVC's. I go in the hot spa every night for 30 minutes. Have been doing it for 30 years. I lose 5 pounds a night and do not drink water in the spa. I now have PVC's. Can dehydration cause PVC's? If so what should I do?

Brief Answer:
yes,dehydration can cause PVCs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

Dehydration is a known cause of PVCs. The electrical system of heart that generates impulses and heart contraction is very influenced by electrolyte level in blood.
Electrolyte imbalances like low Kalium and low Magnesium are common causes of heart rrhythm disturbances like PVCs.
Dehydration apart water loss ,also causes electrolyte loss like kalium and magnesium.

I would suggest to test your electrolyte level in blood (Natrium,Kalium, Magnesium,Calcium).
You should avoid spa for some time or other activities that can cause dehydration.
Drink plenty of water and restrict alcohol and caffeine intake.

If these measures aren't enough to control your PVCs,your doctor may prescribe an anti-arrhythmic drug. The treatment will depend upon the severity of the condition.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.

My question was. I take 100mg of Trazodone to sleep. Only take at bed time. When I eat food before bed I dissolve the Trazodone under my tongue. Does it hurt to dissolve Trazodone under your tongue. If I swallow it assorbed by food and does not work. Can I dissolve 100 mg of Trazodone under my tongue each night instead of swallowing.

not recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

I apologize for the delay in answering you.

The route of administration of a drug is closely related to the pharmacodynamic of the drug .The molecular structure of the drug will determine the specifics of absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination. All these factors will determine the best route of administration to achieve the best effect and lessen side effects.

Trazodone tablet is designed to be taken via oral route because it is better absorbed in GI tract .It should be swallowed whole or broken along the score lines.
You should not chew or crush Trazodone tablets.

The best time to take it is shortly after a meal.
When Trazodone is taken shortly after food, there may be an increase in the amount of drug absorbed, a decrease in maximum concentration and a lengthening in the time to maximum concentration.
This helps to avoid stomach upset and to reduce dizziness.

It is not a good idea to dissolve the Trazodone under the tongue because this changes the pharmacodynamic of the drug and can increase side effects.
Trazodone oral tablet is not produced for sublingual use ,so you should not do it.

I would suggest to discuss it with your treating doctor before you do any change in the way the drug is supposed to be taken.

Hope this helps.
Take care,

Dr.Rovena
