Does Different Blood Group In Couple Cause Complications In Pregnancy?
Question: Hello Doctor,
I have already been following-up and consulting you regarding my wife's pregancy (Priyanka Agrawal) .My wife is now 17 weeks pregnant. You can find all the reports already attached in previous queries.
I have below question:
My blood group is A+ve and my wife blood group is B-ve.
When we consulted regarding this, Doctor advised that in cases of +ve and -ve blood combinations some special Anti-D injections are given at the time of pregancy.
Can you please help us with exactly what care needs to be taken and steps needs to be followed so that there are no issues in pregnancy.
Your answer is really appreciated and help clear our doubts.

Hello dear, there is nothing to worry about the negative group and it just needs an injection of anti D at the time of delivery which is commonly available and costs around 2300-2500 rupees depending on the brand and city of purchase.

I was reading an article related to this, I found below:
To further reduce the chance of Haemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN) caused by Rh (D) antibodies, it has been recommended that for all of their pregnancies, all Rh (D) negative women should receive Rh (D) immunoglobulin injections at 28 and 34 weeks gestation (antenatal prophylaxis) as well as at delivery of an Rh (D) positive baby.
In this article it talks about Anti-D at 28 and 34 weeks gestation and also at the time of delivery.
Can you please help clarify this.
After reading your reply, I assume Anti-D at 28 and 34 weeks is not necessary and required only at the time of delivery.

In my opinion first time pregnant patients donot need antenatal Anti D and it is just needed at the time of delivery.
But there are new guidelines for use at 28weeks as well as a booster but that is generally in second pregnancy.
One more at 34 weeks is definitely not needed.
So in case you still want to opt for it then just get 1 at 28 weeks and then repeat after delivery that's all.
It has no side effects so nothing to worry
