Does Eating Tabouli During Pregnancy Cause Any Complications?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: I'm 11 weeks pregnant and made homemade tabouli for dinner with bulgur wheat. I soaked the grains but we're stlll crunchy after 30 minutes. I ate it anyway. I'm now worried-could the fact that I ate raw grains harm the baby?

Brief Answer:
Please avoid taking tabouli, it can cause abortion like situations

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

It is said that parsley in tabouli contains substances like apiol and myristicin. These can cause the muscles of uterus to contract and therefore an abortion like situation or premature labor in early or late pregnancy.

Taking a single serving as you have done might not cause significant problems but should you find any bleeding or spotting in the next few days then please consult your doctors immediately and inform them of your tabouli consumption.

Please avoid taking tabouli during the rest of your pregnancy.

Wishing you good health.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
