Are premature infants at higher risk for fracture from a small trauma? Infant was born at 32 weeks, twin gestation, received betamethasone x2, magnesium sulfate, procardia and indocin to delay premature labor. Delivery weight was 4lbs 4oz. Mother was on bed rest a significant portion of pregnancy, followed a vegetarian diet. Infants x rays has also shown s shaped scoliosis. Labs are WNL. Premature babies can have soft bones and may be prone to fractures but this needs considerable force as the bones are still pliable.
It is better to supplement them with vitamin D.
