Does Excess Sugar Intake During Pregnancy Affect GCT Results?
Question: Dear Doctor,
My wife is 28 weeks pregnant. She has undergone GCT test and glucose level is 210. Our gynecologist has suggested to avoid free sugar and increase walking and get fasting and PP sugar and Hb1ac test done after a week to check the level again.
Prior to having this test done she was having lot of sweets in prior week due to some celebration in family. Is it possible that increased intake of sweets might have affected the results of GCT? Please advise.
Also, please suggest what food is recommended to reduce sugar intake and what should be avoied. Thanks

Brief Answer:
No effect on GCT
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, thanks for trusting health care magic.
No dear excess intake of sugar in prior week will not affect GCT results.
Moreover the HbA1c test advised to you will reflect the last 3 months status of sugars.
Sugar control is very very important for her at this stage so don't take it lightly.
Take care
