Does Excessive Drinking Cause Yellow Eyes?
Question: G/afternoon,
I am 68 and have been drinking heavy (2 pints of Vodka a DAY for the past 6 months ) and would like to know if my eyes in the attached self pic look yellow or not to you!
I seem to have no other signs such as blood in the urine , my stool is the correct color, no upper body pins etc!
I know its a lousy pic but can you perhaps give me an idea?
IDEA!?

Brief Answer:
Yellow discoloration of eyes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
No,your eyes do not look yellow.
However scleral icterus (yellow discoloration of eyes) becomes clinically evident at a serum bilirubin level of >/=3 mg/dl.
Raised bilirubin in between 1.5 and 3 mg/dl indicates sub-clinical jaundice.
Normal serum bilirubin level is 0.3 to 1.5 mg/dl.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Your eyes look white and not yellow.
That means you don't have any jaundice clinically.
However in view of your drinking habit ,you may still have subclinical jaundice.
For that you have to undergo serum bilirubin test.
If serum bilirubin is within normal range (0.3 to 1.5 mg/dl),you are not having any jaundice (if any due to acute alcoholic hepatitis) clinically as well as bichemically.
