Does Ingestion Of Hair Dye Cause Cancer?
Question: Hi,
I swallowed about 2ml of black permanent hair dye bye accent,, diluted in a mouthful of red wine - I drank lots of liquid after and went to hospital, no immediate symptoms.
I am a fit and healthy 21 year old male with no previous medical history, I eat well as exercise regularly.
What is the chance that I'm going to get cancer, from this incident. Im freaking out a little, as I have read online that it's very bad to ingest hair XXXXXXX due to the super oxigantors that can irreversibly damage your DNA and cause high amounts of oxadative stress.
My mum has told me I am worrying to much and it will most likely just cause I bit of scaring in my stomach - but a one time exposure isn't going to do permanent damage.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
2 ml must not be a problem
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
2ml of hair XXXXXXX should not cause long term effects, a better decision would have been to vomit it out.
Hair XXXXXXX if taken at toxic levels often causes arrhythmia, renal failure, respirtory failure and cardiac arrest. But since you do not have any of that and you have given a clean chit there should not be any long term effects as well.
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
Regards

So I shouldn't be concerned about DNA damage?
So I shouldn't be concerned about DNA damage?
Brief Answer:
Don't worry about damage to dna
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back
Damage to the DNA is constant and can happen to several things like exposure to sunlight, toxic fumes, smoking , etc. There are several proteins which help in repairing the damaged Dna as well. I don't think 2ml of diluted hair XXXXXXX can cause sufficient enough damage to cause cancer. However to be sure go for yearly general health check ups
