Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: hello

I have taken omeprazole for the past 4 years and I think it works okey; I started with 2 pill pr.day and now I take 1 pill.

But yesterday a friend got a stomach acid treatment and she got pills named Esomeprazol; and I have google it and some research shows that this pills are more effective.

What do you know aabout these drugs ?? could it be a good idea to try something different and maybe get at better cure for my GERD problem ??

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
You are reporting to have used omeprasole for 4 years, probably due to acid reflux.

With regards to esomeprasole or other drugs like pantoprasole, rabeprasole etc are new drug generations of PPI'S family drugs.
Of course that new generations drugs are most effective and less side effects.
This is why I suggest to change omeprasole with esomeprasole or pantoprasole once per day.
Hope it was helpful to you.

Sounds good; the research I see online agrees with you.

Is Esomeprazole just as safe as omeprazole to take for longterm use ?
and do you suggest 20mg or 40mg pr.day ?

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
with regards to long term uses , there are a lot of studies that suggest for osteoporosis after esomeprasole use.
Otherwise you can use it as needed.
I would suggest to use 20 mg tablets. If your symptoms will not improve than you can use 40mg.
Hope it was helpful.
