Does Intake Of PEP Medicine For HIV Result In Gynaecomastia?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Mar 2016
Question: Hi,

I had taken PEP medication for HIV some time back. I only took it for 28 days. I saw that during that duration only once I had some type of fluid also came out of my right nipple.

I also feel that I my chest has grown little wince then and it is visible even if I wear shirt. I normally wear something tight inside to me it less visible.

Do I have gynecomastia? Does PEP for HIV cause it?
Are there any medications that will help with this problem?
What are my options?

Please advise.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
GYNECOMASTIA possible.

Detailed Answer:
Good day.
Noted your question. Yes it is possible that anti HIV drugs can cause this. It can cause gynecomastia

. To comment if you have true gynecomastia, is only possible after examination. Sometimes fat deposition can also present like this. Please meet an endocrinologist who can examine you and come to a conclusion. In this situation, you may also need some tests.
1.Fssting blood sugar
2.Liver and Kidney function profile. (blood tests ).
3.Serum prolactin.
4.Estradiol (E2).
5. Testosterone.
6. beta Hcg.
Kindly discuss with your doctor about it.

If you have true gynecomastia, there are medications available . if it's pseudogynecomastia, then most probably it is due to fat deposition. That need surgical correction by a plastic or general surgeon.,
