Does Late Periods And Negative Pregnancy Test Result Suggest Ectopic Pregnancy?
Question: I am 12 days late for my period. I had a tubal ligation in 1999. I've never been late not this late. I took an at home pregnancy test that was negative. Is there a chance this could be an ectopic pregnancy? I don't really have pain in my abdomen. no breast tenderness, no nausea. I am 37. Should I call my doctor?
Brief Answer:
Not pregnant. No need to panic.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The delay in periods with a negative pregnancy test does not suggest an ectopic pregnancy. The delay is more likely to be due to stress and a mild hormonal imbalance. You need not worry. You have no symptoms of pregnancy and the test is also negative. You can wait for a week and see if the periods start on their own.
