What Are The Side Effects Of COMOX?

Hi doctors, I m 31 yrs old 5 3 in height and weighing 69 kls. I gave birth to my 3rd child last June 6 and I decided to have my tubal ligation on june 7. 4 days after the operation, I found out that the wounds in my belly had pus and blood. I was so worried so I consulted my OB-gyne and she instructed me to take antibiotics particularly co-amox COMOX. Its been 15 days that im taking the antibiotics and I observed that my stool is dark since then. What do you think is the cause of it? My wounds are now dry but sometimes I still feel slight pain, am I out of risk already? Please answer....

Hi,

Co-amoxiclav (COMOX) is a combination antibiotic medication that contains amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. It is commonly used to treat various bacterial infections, including postoperative infections such as the one you experienced.

Dark stools are a known side effect of taking antibiotics, including COMOX. This can occur due to changes in the bacterial balance in the gut, which can affect the color of the stool. However, if you experience other symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, it is important to inform your doctor, as these can be signs of a more serious condition.

It is also common to experience some pain or discomfort after a tubal ligation procedure, as it is a surgical procedure. However, if the pain persists or worsens, or if you notice any signs of infection such as fever, increased redness or swelling at the site of the wound, or increased discharge, you should contact your doctor immediately.

Overall, it is important to continue taking the antibiotics as prescribed and to follow your doctor's instructions for wound care to ensure proper healing. If you have any concerns or questions about the medication or your recovery, do not hesitate to speak with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
