Does Menstruation Affect D-dimer Levels?
Question: Hi recently in hospital had to get d-dimer for suspected dvt , d-dimer came back negative at 219 .can starting ur menstual cycle raise it to that level as on day 2 at moment also had urune infection one week ago . I'm still worried about clot but they discharged me saying test was negative .
Brief Answer:
a clot is not possible
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
you haven't mentioned the units but I supposed that the lab considers the d-dimers "positive" when they exceed 500. Negative d-dimers effectively excludes any thrombotic condition, so you shouldn't worry about a clot. The mentrual cycle is not supposed to affect its levels significantly.
Kind Regards!

Hi their i know some hospitals use 500 as a cut of but hospital i was in is 250 and to me because i was 219 seemed still high , i did have a recent urine tract infection days before am trying to think why my d-dimer is that high or is that a normal level ? Thank you
Brief Answer:
it's normal
Detailed Answer:
Whatever is below the cutoff level is considered normal. No DVT or other thrombotic condition is linked to such low levels...
Kind Regards!
