Does Nerve Block Reduce The Nerve Related Pain Of Hip?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Apr 2014
Question: I had a broken hip on top of a 14 year old hip replacement. The cap hold ing the ball was fractured to that part had to be replaced back on XXXXXXX 20. I was doing pretty good untl a home PT person put me through two exercises that really hurt. The exercises were stopped but have had pain every since. I can't tell if it's nerve pain or something else. The Percet last about 1 and 1/2 hours. (5mg/325). They want me to go to pain management but wouldn't outpatient OT help better. I can't leave the walker for fear of falling and the pain on some days just doesn't give up. Is there any kind of injection or nerve block that would help? I'm very frustrated and not use to being so tied down even though I have 5 other replacements.

Brief Answer: Nerve block is less liekly to help. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query. The nerve block can help to reduce the nerve related pain but that can cause a decrease in the muscle strength also. The pin point diagnosis of the affected nerve is necessary for a nerve block. You can take the help of a neurologist to find that out. It can be due to a muscle stiffness also. Doing a hot fomentation and getting some muscle relaxants prescribed will also help you. In case the pain is persistent and is severe then attending a pain clinic will be a better option. I hope this answers your query.
