Does Persistent Use Of Perjeta, Taxotere And Carboplatin Cause Heart Damage?
Question: I recently was treated 6 rounds of perjeta, herceptin, taxotere and carboplatin for stage 2 Iib breast cancer. Had lumpectomy . Tumor did not shrink. Was due to start radiation but my oncologist wants me to do 4 rounds of FAC.. Had my last Herceptin on 12/2815. My concern is what will this do to my heart? Last muga was 63%.
Brief Answer:
should not do much damage
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Though some more details like full histopathology report would help, it appears that there was no or minimal pathological response to neoadjuvant chemo plus trastuzumab and pertuzumab. In that event further chemo with different combination like FAC is appropriate.
As cardiac function is normal now and FAC without concurrent trastuzumab is not much cardiotoxic, this should be fine. Other toxicities of FAC like oral ulcer, vomiting, diarrhea, neutrophil reduction, alopecia may be there.
I think you can go ahead with it.
Hope this helps.
