Does Physiotherapy Help In Preventing Acute Attack Of Sciatica?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Apr 2016
Question: Good morning, I am a grandma almost 80. Had an acute attack of sciatica last year at this time. After several wks of chronic intense leg and back pain, an MRI revealed spinal stenosis.
After an exercise stint with PT, I am almost pain free one year later. Will home exercises continue to help to stave off injections or surgery? Or does this progress with further aging? I do have occasional tingling sensations in legs and feet but NOTHING compared to the acute attack a year ago.
Thank you, XXXXXX XXXXX. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Continue physiotherapy and oral medications if any

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Disc prolapse, Foraminal stenosis occurs with aging too.

Physiotherapy helps in strengthening the back muscles to maintain the alignment of spine and disc space.

Further progression will usually not occur if physiotherapy is continued and back care and precautions followed.

Take calcium and vitamin D supplementation regularly.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
