I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.
Rapid Test:
Sir!! as far as your concern about spectrum of strains detected by Rapid test goes,You don't have to worry about it much because,
Rapid test done in U.K usually detects antibodies of both the strains of HIV i-e HIV-1 and HIV-2.
It's a good news that after 18 months of suspected contact the test came out negative.
Your chances of having HIV:
ZERO % theoretically : There is a 0% chance of getting a falsely negative or “non-reactive” result. This means that if your test is non-reactive (negative), then no HIV antibodies are detectable in your body at the time.
CONCLUSION:
In my opinion you don't have to worry about HIV any more because after 18 months of suspected contact if your rapid test is negative theoretically you have no chances of having nay strain of HIV.

Is the type 2 strain rare in the uk compared to type 1 .
Yes..!! infact it's less than HIV-1 as a whole all around the world.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back to me,
Type -2 strain as a whole is a rare strain, rarely found outside XXXXXXX
=>Type-2 strain is far less than Type 1 in UK.
In U.K there are almost no cases reported in patients whose suspected source didn't have anything to do with XXXXXXX
But still Most of the FDA approved kits for rapid HIV testing detect antibodies for both type 1 and type 2 HIV strains in U.K.

Yes indeed
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back to me,
Yes indeed according to new guide lines the new FDA approved kits used in UK test for antibodies for both strains of HIV , as a standard protocol, if test is positive then PCR is done to find out what strain actually made it positive if it's negative then no further investigation is required as test has very good negative predictive value and very accurate after 3 months of suspected exposure.
