Does Smoking Marijuana Cause High SGPT And SGOT Levels?
yes it can affect
Detailed Answer:
hello XXXX,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.
Yes marijuana smoking affects liver and other organs of the body.Smoke inhalation via lung reaches blood circulation.Liver is the detoxification organ of the body, which detoxifies the harmful substance in the blood. Likewise marijuana smoke also detoxified by the liver.
When person smokes daily, it affects liver function as it is not routine function of the liver to detoxify such substance.
That's why your liver function is impaired which is reflected in liver function tests like sgpt and sgot.
Drinking lot of water not going to help in decreasing sgpt or sgot.
The only way to improve the tests is to quit smoking. Medicines which you have been prescribed can help to improve function little bit. They are rather preventing damage not treating what already occurred. Vit.E is an antioxidant which help in detoxification. But in long run they will be ineffective if you continue smoking and damage will be permanent.
Eat food with carbohydrates and protein and avoid food with fat and difficult to digest until your liver function comes to normal.
Hope I have answered your query satisfactorily, if you have still any confusion I will be happy to help.In that case revert back to me with your reports details, duration and quantity of smoking and if any other substance use like alcohol or tobacco, details of that.
Regards,
Dr.Chinatn Solanki.
