Hi,

Swelling of the face after using Motrin (ibuprofen) may be a sign of an allergic reaction. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is commonly used to reduce pain and inflammation. Although, this medication can cause side effects that also includes allergic reactions.

Allergic reactions to ibuprofen can range from mild to severe and may include symptoms such as hives, rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, and chest pain. Swelling of the face is a less common symptom but can still be a sign of an allergic reaction.

Given your mother's medical history, including her recent bypass surgery and her current hemodialysis treatment, she must speak with her doctor before continuing to take ibuprofen. Ibuprofen can affect the kidneys and may not be recommended for patients with kidney disease, especially those undergoing dialysis. In some cases, ibuprofen can worsen kidney function, which can lead to further health complications.

Your mother should also be monitored for signs of an allergic reaction, including swelling of the face while taking ibuprofen. If she experiences any symptoms of an allergic reaction, she should stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention.

In terms of alternative options for managing muscular pain, your mother should speak with her doctor to explore other pain relief options that may be more suitable for her medical condition and treatment plan. This may include other types of pain relievers or physical therapy.

Overall, it is important to always speak with your doctor before taking any new medications, especially if you have a history of medical conditions or are currently undergoing treatment for a health condition. Your doctor can help determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs and help monitor for any potential side effects.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
