Hello,
Thanks for writing to Health Care magic.
I am Dr , Muhammad Ahmad , I have read your question closely. I can understand your concern and will be helping you with your health related problem.
Cholesterol meds are quite notorious for causing muscle damage and body aches, so most probably that is the reason that your doctor took you off them. There is no other evident reason of cramps in your case so we will just take it as simple muscle cramps. Muscle cramps due to exertion and possibly calcium and vitamin D deficiency usually occur late night and in early morning.
1) Keep your daily exertion under check, don't over exert wear easy shoes and walk within a distance range what you can easily do without exertion.
2) Vitamin D deficiency can also be a cause of it and you are already taking it so hopefully things will get better.
3) Winters are setting in , in most parts of the world if there is a significant weather change at your area too then protect your muscles from low temperature exposure this exacerbates cramps, if you use air conditioner keep it moderately cold, and don't be in front of it directly.
4) Warm compressing the cramped muscle softens it up and helps.
5) You can use Tylenol and topical cream or bio ice for relief.
6) If you still needs some specific medication for cramps then we have muscle relaxants available for that purpose which you can discuss with your doctor.
7) Stay well hydrated by drinking lot of water and XXXXXXX warm liquids (soups, broths etc.)
I hope this answered your question, If you have more queries I'll be happy to answer.
Regards.
Dr.Muhammad Ahmad
