Does Zocef Medication Treat Adenoids?
Question: hello doc my 5 yr old daughter has been with high fever for 5 days. Todays adenoids xray showed enlarged adenoids.blocking the nasopharyngeal air space. All other reports r clear except crp report which is 24.3...Does zocef medication treat adenoids. Or is thr any other good antibiotic which treats it besides augmentain cause she is allergic to augmentain.it just nvr works on her.

Zocef is good medicine but for upper respiratory tract infection azithromycin could be a better choice for children.
You could consult your doctor for the dosage of azithromycin as it is decided according to the weight.
Zocef treats adenoids , as adenoids are enlarged because of infection and the common organisms which cause adenoid enlargement at 5 yrs of age are very well sensitive to Zocef.
In addition to antibiotics she need decongestant syrups like T minic, Sinarest, Wikoryl etc and nasal drops like xylometazoline.The decongestion would give good relief in breathing from blockage caused by enlarged adenoids.
Even after 5 days of antibiotic if there is no relief then get the antibiotic changed.

Dear doctor. Thank u for ur reply......My pediatrician has started azee 200 this evening .. 5ml once a day. Any idea how many days of azee would take to get the fever to go. Cause its very high. 103 f. Hes also giving zifi 100 .. 7.5 ml..twice a day. Will that help too.

Both medicines are good and can be given together.
Sometimes we need to give two antibiotics because of the resistance in organism in society, i also give to my patients combination drugs and cefexime ie zifi is good medicine.
After 24 hours fever intensity and frequency both should decrease.
But it will be better if you give paracetamol round the clock ie 6 hourly.
according to the weight. Crocin syrup is paracetamol syrup in that dosage is also written.
Do not wait for fever to rise upto 103 F.
Fever should not come and most importantly should not raise upto such high level like 103.
If you are giving paracetamol but still the fever is coming then start cold sponging. If she is wearing thick clothes change the clothes and give her cotton clothes ,as high temperature does not go if same thick clothes are on .
Fever is the only problem do cold sponging.if doesn't go with paracetamol.
