Endometrial Cells Found In Pap Test. Ultrasound Done. What Does The Value Signify?
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.
From what you are telling me, it sounds like they did the ultrasound because of the endometrial cells on the pap smear. The concern in a women who is postmenopausal is pre-cancerous or cancerous changes of the uterus. Endometrial cells should not be present, and so far, they have done everything correctly. But, here is what must happen:
1. You should ask what the measurement of the endometrial lining is. If it is <4mm, then there is NOTHING to worry about. This is the cutoff below which we virtually never find a problem
2. If the endometrial lining is 4mm or greater, you must DEMAND that they perform an endometrial biopsy. This is a simple relatively pain-free procedure that is easily done in the clinic. It does not matter what they said about the cells on the pap smear. This is not negotiable.
3. In all likelihood, they just sampled with the pap smear brush a little too high in the cervix, so the lack of bleeding is a good thing. Do not panic, but make sure they complete the evaluation of your uterus!

Does this report look ok?
Thank you so much, maybe I'll sleep tonight. We are new to the las vegas area. When we were In Michigan I had the same gynocologist for 15 years! When we got here I was overdue for the pap by a few months and just picked a doctor off of our insurance web site. I don't like her. It took 3 weeks + for an office assistant to call me with the results. No the doctor did not call me. I was told that she doesn't answer questions over the phone. However I could come in for a 280.00 consultation. Anyway, could you recommend a gynocologist in the las Vegas area to do the follow up? I am at a loss as I don't where to go or who to see next. Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Felicia
Please clarify - is the endo-thickness 2.62 cm or mm?
With an endometrial lining of 2.6 mm, you have nothing to worry about. I would not perform an endometrial biopsy on a patient of my own with these findings. I would only do this if you had abnormal bleeding or a repeat of the same finding.
The rest of the report looks completely normal!
With regard to your doctor, do not go back to her. This is terrible care. I do not know any GYN doctors in Las Vegas, but you must ask for a "word of mouth" referral from someone.
