Thanks for posting your query. Excessive saliva can be due to increased saliva production which can occur due to GERD or due to decreased ability to swallow or to retain saliva in your mouth which can occur due to acute sinusitis, allergies, multiple sclerosis or parkinsonism.
Since you have the symptoms of hives also and you are taking Allegra, hence it looks like allergies and post nasal drip to me. Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses.
For ruling it out an ENT examination along with transillumination test of sinuses or x-ray sinuses should be done. Secondly for the hives, the cause needs to be identified for which you have to get allergy testing done. Diagnosis of allergy can be done by skin prick tests and patch tests.
In this a little amount of allergen is injected into the skin of the forearm by a doctor. The skin is closely watched for signs of a reaction, which include swelling and redness. Confirmatory diagnosis is by blood tests (RAST).
Till you get these investigations done, inhale plenty of steam or use a humidifier, eat small nutritious meals at frequent intervals instead of a heavy single meal. Exercise frequently and take your dinner atleast 2 hrs prior to bedtime. Also raise the head end of the bed by 2 blocks.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
