Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for query. As per your symptoms it seems that you have some problem with your ear.

There are various conditions in which you get pain inside the ear and behind it also.

1.Some infection like a boil inside
2.Upper respiratory tract infection
3.Middle ear infections
4.Mastoid infection.

These are the common set of conditions which when present, can lead to painful ear.As a result of infection in this area, surrounding in lymph nodes which drain this area also becomes inflamed and give rise pain and swelling.

Having symptoms like running nose, fever or some cough favors diagnosis of URTI.In absence of this only with local symptoms other diagnosis are likely.

Take analgesic for pain, round the clock, which suits you.Do not put anything into the ear like oil etc.Make sure that water does not get in during bath.Take steam inhalation once or twice in a day.

In case of viral infection normally this measures can take care of problem. In presence of other infection and mastoids(means infection in bone of ear, which lies behind ear) you may need a course of antibiotics after proper diagnosis.

Take light diet, avoid cold drinks and oily and spicy foods which can aggravate the problem.

I hope this take care of your query,I will be available for follow up.
