Feeling Bloated After Eating Late Night Or Greasy Food. What Is The Cause And Cure?

I have found recently if I eat late at night or greasy food I wake up feeling bloated and like there is a strong tightness around my stomach. I also feel repelled from food sometimes. my stomach feels sensitive to touch also. If I don't eat it is better. There is a general feeling of belching and occasionally water comes up into my mouth. I am a 43yrs old male.
I do have a funny feeling in my throat occasionally but that usually clears. I am a busy social worker.
The symptoms that you are experiencing is suggestive
of GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Sensitivity to fatty
foods, water brash ,belching all suggest you might have a week
sphincter muscle between the esophagus and the stomach
junction. It is possible you may also have acid sensitivity.
If you had an ulcer of your stomach the symptoms would
be different. Duodenal ulcer is associated with relief of pain
after eating and pain usually comes back after an hour or two.
Gastric ulcer on the other hand is associated with pain after
eating, sometimes nausea and vomiting following.
Gastric cancer may also be associated with similar symptoms
but usually ther is loss of appetite and weight loss.
If you have a family history of ulcers, we have to rule that
out.
I suugest that you get an upper GI series (X-ray ) and also a
sonogram of the abdomen, gallbladder to rule out gallstones.
You can try over the counter Omeprazole 20 mg. twice a day
about an hour before meals morning and night and stay on it
for about 4 weeks to see if you get symptom relief.
If they persist, you may have to see a digestive disease
specialist for further work up.
Avoid tomato sauces, citrus, cheeses, excess caffeine and tobacco.
Wish you well.
