Feeling Sluggish And Off Balanced, Decrease Energy Level. Blood Work, X-ray And EKG Normal. Reason?

Posted on Mon, 3 Jun 2013
Question: over the past month, i've noticed decreased energy levels since i had an episode while working out on vacation about 4 weeks ago. i was on an intense 2.5 mile run in very hot conditions and suddenly became very confused and dis-oriented.

since that time, i've had a full physical and also alot of blood work, ekgs (3 of them) chest xray and heart ultrasound. all turned out to be normal although i do have a slight heart arythmia which they said is nothing to be concerned of.

i also saw an ENT who did a VNG exam.

at times, i'm still feeling sluggish and off balanced (or sensitive to motion). its sort of a feeling that comes and goes but is definitely worse in the mornings.

further, i've noticed the past week that i've felt the need to dry heave after eating breakfast. i will gag a few times then feel fine. it does not occur after any other meals. today was one of the worst as i had a banana, canteloupe and a omega vitatmin. the vitamin i'd just started taking for the first time at breakfast today.

is this a thyroid issue? i had blood tests done at the hopsital and thyroid was fine. i've since had my doctor to run additional tests on the thyroid.he will let me know monday what he found, and said if anything serious he'd call but has not.

energy levels are not great but ok. i've still worked out on occasion and played golf.

what other issues could it be? anxiety / depression? thank you.

Hello,

Thanks for your query,

You are a young adult male of 28 yrs old. So far you were very active. Over the past months you have noticed decreased energy levels since you had an episode while working out on vacation about 4 weeks ago. You were on an intense 2.5 mile run in very hot conditions and suddenly became very confused and dis-oriented.

You had an ENT consultation - No abnormality. Blood test and Heart scan revealed nothing but few arrhythmia. At times, you are still feeling sluggish and off balanced (or sensitive to motion). It's sort of a feeling that comes and goes but is definitely worse in the mornings. Past week you felt the need to dry heave after eating breakfast. After a few gags you felt fine. You had a banana, cantaloupe and an omega vitamin.

The Thyroid test done was normal and you are waiting for an additional thyroid test.
I like to know what you mean by the episode? Very confused and dis-oriented state is due to excessive run in hot climate which might have lowered your blood glucose , Sodium and other electrolytes because of more sweat, your brain oxygen might have temporarily reduced. The symptoms of confused and disoriented state may be because of that. It is only a temporary phenomenon. "You must correct electrolyte imbalance" if you have.

If you don't balance your diet with the work You are doing you are supposed to get all your complaints because of deficiency of electrolytes, sugar and vitamins.

Similarly indigestion is an associated factor for your early morning complaints.
If you are a smoker stop it. Do some breathing exercises, stay in an airy atmosphere, take bland, healthy diet, plenty of oral water, small and frequent diet, a good sleep.
I don't think you are in an anxiety or depressed state.

You think that you are normal, have a balanced diet with reasonable rest you will be alright. The second thyroid test is expected to be normal (assumed because of your routine activities). A change in your routine place and work and holidaying for a few days will make you alright.

If you still have doubts you are welcome to ask me.
Best wishes.
