Scaphoid fracture is the most common fracture of the wrist. As occurred with you, the diagnosis is frequently delayed which can have consequences like arthritis, improper union of the bones and avascular necrosis- this is damage to bone that occurs if its blood supply is interrupted.
Avascular necrosis is a risk with this type of fracture because some parts of the scaphoid receive less blood than the others.
Normally treatment involves either a cast or surgery to go in and XXXXXXX fix the bone.
This is followed by rehabilatation which is started within a week of initiating treatment.
Because your treatment has been delayed it is possible that there is delayed union of the bones. There are at least 5 different surgical procedures that can be done to address this.
You are not without options, in this present day there are a number of options available to you.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
also i dont have a cold thumb the blood supply feels good
can you still have a problem with the supply of blood to the thumb if this is the case?
Union occurs when the two pieces of the fracture unite when they heal.
Avascular necrosis is related to the blood supply of the bones and would not affect the circulation the the soft tissue of the area. It is a rare complication and is likely not to be present.
