Diagnosed With AVN In Wrist. Needed Surgery. Broke Bone In Forearm. Put Plate. Time To Heal And Recover?
hello, I've been diagnosed with AVN in wrist. will need surgery right my luna bone is black and they want to break my bone in the forearm and put plate in and shave down a bone also that is in my wrist and move veins around to get blood flo to luna to need to know what to expect? what will happen after? how long will I be down? how long will I have a cast? will I be able to resume work? will my hand still have the same range of motion that I have now? is this something that will disable me in time ? I know that it will slow it down but no cure

Your condition is otherwise known as "Kienbock's disease" of Lunate.
This is just to let you know that each patient's response to treatment depends on the degree of damage to the lunate and surrounding wrist bones.
Treatment does not change the course of the disease, however it can help to minimize the disability from the problem.You cannot expect to ever return to normal wrist function after any form of treatment.
After surgery, the cast will be put on for a period of 8 -10 weeks.
You can resume to your work after the completion of bone consolidation.
As I said earlier, you cannot expect to have a normal range of movement. Disability depends on the stage of your disease.
