Getting Regular Periods. Noticed Mucus Discharge After Intercourse. Trying To Conceive. What To Do?

Thanks for writing to us
The brownish discharge can be due to several things. Maybe your next period has set in or we are probably looking at an abortion ( we'll have to confirm a pregnancy for that) or it could be just due to some local trauma.
The other symptoms could be due to pregnancy or due to just a premenstrual phase.
Here's what you should be doing in this order
a. If you do not get your period, please do a urine pregnancy test at home 1 week after the day you should have started your period. So as per dates, you should be doing the test on 1st October. If you want to know earlier, see a physician and get a serum beta hCG done for yourself. This is a blood test and will pick up the pregnancy sooner.
If this is positive, I would suggest that a transvaginal ultrasound scan be done at 6 weeks so, that would be around the middle of October.
b. If you do get your period, it could be due to the beginning of your next period or due to local trauma ( which may be sustained during intercourse).
As far as conceiving is concerned, ovulation would generally take place during day 11-21 of your cycle. Day 1 of your cycle is the day you start your period. So you should have unprotected sexual intercourse preferably everyday during that period.
Also, keep the stress levels down, have a healthy and balanced diet and do not engage in any vigorous activity.
Till we get your pregnancy test, please avoid any type of Xrays, or drugs ( including medication)
Let me know if you have any more concerns.
Regards

I think it would be prudent if we wait for another 3-4 days before doing a urine pregnancy test. Local trauma means any kind of small injury you might have sustained during intercourse etc.
Clear cervical mucus is generally due to ovulation. Its possible that you ovulated the day after you had intercourse. As per your dates, your ovulation should have taken place anywhere between 11th-21st September.
These changes are not due to metformin.
I wish you the very best and do let me know the results of the pregnancy test in a few days
Regards

I took another urine hcg this morning and the test results have still come back negative. What i am having a little trouble trying to understand is that why i am continually tired,my breasts are still aching intermittently and now instead of a period i have managed to contract thrush!! Im not quite sure what is going on... but as of today still no AF..
Thanks for writing back.
Your symptoms are actually suggestive of a premenstrual syndrome/pregnancy. The only way to confirm what's going on is by doing a serum beta hCG level. This is a blood test and you will need to see your general physician for this.
If the levels are higher than we expect them to be, its suggestive of a pregnancy and we'll follow up with an ultrasound of the pelvis.
If the levels are not ( and thus a pregnancy is ruled out), we should only be concerned if you do not get your period the next month as well. It is at that time when we would like to do additional tests like a sonogram etc
The thrush is not related to this. I would like to know where is the thrush so that i can prescribe you the appropriate treatment
Hope that helps.
Regards
