Had An Eye Stroke In Her Resulted In Permanent Vision. Taking Aspirin To Keep Blood Clean. Advise?
Question: My sister, age 57, had an eye stroke in her left eye this week, XXXXXXX 18th, and has permanent vision loss in the left eye. An opthamologist examined her after am ambulance took her to an ER. Her insurance co. has not responded as yet to what cardiologist she can see. Should she, in the mean time, take a 325 mg. aspirin to keep her blood thin so as not to have another eye stroke in her right eye or anywhere else in her body, or even a possible heart attack?
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
The details you have provided are incomplete. I presume you are referring to a blood clot in the brain (brain stroke), resulting in vision loss in one eye. This can happen if there is a stroke in the occipital lobe of brain.
A CT scan or MRI of brain would confirm this.
In this situation, taking aspirin would be helpful, as this would prevent any recurrence of further strokes.
I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any more queries.
Best wishes,

She did not have a Brain Stroke......she had an Eye Stroke....and the vision in the eye which she had the Eye Stroke is permanently gone.
What possibly situations caused the Eye Stroke? Could she lose her complete vision in her other eye?
What tests would you recommend for the Eye Stroke she had?
Please Reply alot Sooner than before with above question!! Thankyou.

Eye stroke could be due to retinal artery or ophthalmic artery occlusion.
The common underlying risk factors for this include high BP, high sugar, high cholesterol and high homocysteine. These can be tested in blood and corrected, if abnormal.
MRI of brain with angiogram would help in the diagnosis, in addition to fundus examination done by an ophthalmologist.
With proper treatment with medications such as aspirin and statins, the risk of further stroke can be greatly reduced.
