Have Pcos. Trying To Conceive. Taking Metformin. Feeling Nausea, Drowsiness And Vomiting. Any Idea?

Question: HI Doctor, Im 24yrs old, I gave birth at my 8th month of pregnancy in june2012 and my baby died because of some complications, his lungs are not yet fully developed. now my husband and i are trying to conceive, my last menstruation was October2012 and until now im still not having my period, i went to my OB in 8Jan2013 and found out i had PCOS, it shows that my uterus lining is so thin that its like for women reaching their menopausal stage but she assured me im not menopausing, im done with ultrasound and some tests such as PTs but it shows negative result. my OB prescribed metformin 500mg/day for 100days. She explained clearly that it will take effect for about 3mos. I have felt nausea,drowsiness,vomiting which is normal as per my OB because of the metformin, Now im feeling cramps,lower back pains and my breasts hurts. I just want to know if there is a meds i should take to induce my period? i dont want to take birth control pills to have my period regularize because we are planning to have a baby again. And if ever i will have my period what should i take to conceive? with prayers, i know you can help me.

Thanks for your query.

To regularize your cycle you can take progesterone supplements on regular cyclical basis. It will not interfere with your trying to get pregnant.
You can definitely conceive with metformin and clomifene citrate. Discuss about these medications with your Gynecologist.
Symptoms of cramps, lower back ache and tender breasts are side effects of metformin. You need not worry as its severity will reduce in 3 months.

I see. so i will just have to wait for 3mos and hopefully i'll have my menstruation then and we'll see from there. I really wanted to have my menstruation already. if theres just like a supplement i could take to have flow. i do exercise and all that but still no period.

Your symptoms of pain will get relieved in 3 months period. But your periods can start in a month if you start progesterone supplements. Discuss about taking progesterone tablets with your Gynecologist. Good that you are working out on your weight. Weight reduction doubles your chances of getting pregnant.

Thanks for the follow up query.

Progesterone supplements are hormones which regularize your cycle without interfering fertility. It is not contraceptive. You need to discuss with Gynecologist for prescription.
There are no well controlled studies regarding use of parsley tea and induction of menstruation. Moreover your kidney function test needs to be normal before tasting such herbs.

I just want to know as well if when is the right time to take a birth control pills? is it the first day of your menstruation or anytime? And how soon can i stop the pill if i wanted to get pregnant?

Birth control pill has to be started on first day of menstrual cycle.
Once you stop taking birth control pill, your fertility is restored within 2 months. In simple words, you can get pregnant within 2 months of stopping birth control pill.

Hello,

Since you have ammenorrhea, you can start birth control pill right away from now. You will have your normal period after 1 month. You need to continue taking pills for 3 more months to get your hormonal levels back to normal.
Please note: When you start second pack of pills for next cycle, start it on the first day of menstrual cycle.

So doc, if i start now with the pill. i will also continue the take of metformin right? coz my OB said that can regularize my cycle and pills can do that as well right?

So if i start now with the pill, ill just finish everything out of it and wont stop even if i would have my period then? and so by next month i will start taking it on the first day of my cycle. i hope i understood it correctly?

Sorry if i have a lot of question. my OB is out of the country and i dont know who to talk to. I hope youre not bothered. One more thing. Lets say im taking the pill already and im done with the whole pack for a whole cycle and still i dont have my period yet. should i still continue taking another pack or wait for how many days for my period to come? Or should i just take it every day until i get my period then just stop if a whole batch of pill is done and just wait for the next cycle.

In a pack of birth control pill, last 7 tablets are placebo. You will get your period in those days.
If you don't get your periods , then start your next pack without any break. The possibility of not getting periods is very minimum. so don't worry.

You can start taking Clomifene citrate(Clomid 100) tablet one daily from 3-7 days of menstrual cycle for ovulation. Continue taking metformin. I recommend alternate day intercourse irrespective of ovulation days.

Hello,
Clomid has to be taken under supervision of a Gynecologist. It is very effective. Increases conception rate to 30%. It is not effective if you start on 5th day. It has to be started on 2nd or 3rd day.

Yes, any form of drugs used for ovulation induction has increased chance of getting twins.
But the risk of twins is very small. Its about 5 %.
In simple words, 95 number of women among 100 users of clomid will have singleton pregnancy.

So tomorrow will be the 3rd day of my cycle, ill be taking clomid then for 5 days so that would be until the 5th of march. when do you think its the right time to have sex for me to conceive? or my ovulation?
My sister was advised by her OB since shes trying to conceive as well, she was advised to take clomid on the 5th day of her cycle for 5days 3times a day. Why is that?

Exactly , you got me right.

Clomid stated in early part of cycle(3rd) day has better response than 5th day. Moreover,chances of twin pregnancy is reduced when you start it on 2nd or 3rd day as it promotes unifollicular development(only one dominant follicle develops).

I recommend you to get a folliculometry done to know the size of growing follicle and time of rupture.
I recommend you to have intercourse every alternate days from 8th day of your cycle irrespective of the ovulation day.

Hi.

Yes,there is something called as chinese calender method. I basically do not advice on these calender methods as the results are not very accurate. What is more important is to have a healthy baby at the end of 9 months.
