Have White Crusted Lesion On Knee Surrounded By A Pinkish Purple Patch. What Is It?
Question: I have a white crusted over lesion on my knee surrounded by a pinkish purple patch. It does not hurt or itch. It's about two inches in diameter. The whole area is flat. There are no brown or black spots involved. It blanches when pressed.
Hello dear,
Thanks for the query and a good quality photograph.
There can be various causes of crusted lesion with erythema.
The common ones which we see in clinical practice are,
1. psoriasis
2. post traumatic
3. squamous cell carcinoma.
In order to come to a closer diagnosis, I would like to know the following.
Since how many days the lesions are present?
was there any trauma before the appearance of lesion?
was there any lesion like a mole present at the same site since many years?
you have a single lesion or there are other lesions on the body?
Any one in the family having similar complaints?
Kindly answer the above question, so I can help you better.
Wishing you a good health.

There was no trauma before. This is the only lesion like this. It has been there many months. Nobody else had complained of this.
Thanks for the follow up,
With your clarification, I could near down my diagnosis to the following.
1. Squamous cell carcinoma
2. Cutaneous tuberculosis ( I missed to mention this in previous post)
Both these conditions present with painless erythematous patch with a central plaque, and can be differentiated only by biopsy.
It is considered that erythematous asymptomatic patches are more XXXXXXX than those with symptoms.
Kindly XXXXXXX a dermatologist and get a biopsy done.
Surely other bacterial and fungal infections can be ruled out, as they cannot persist for months and there must be some pain or itch.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

This has been there more than a year. Is it too late to be treated effectively?
hello,
Thanks for the follow up.
Dont worry its not too late.
I can see that the lesion is still confined and is not that big so it can easily be treated.
Anyhow still diagnosis is not that certain, so please remove that fear from mind.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

Thank you. I guess I was worried because the surrounding area looks so large. I have made an appointment with a dermatologist.
Hello,
Dont worry about the surrounding red area,
It is just a reaction to the central lesion.
Its good that you have made an appointment with dermatologist.
If possible let me know what is the final diagnosis.
Wishing you all the best,
Thank you
