Question: Dear Sir,

What I should implement now in order to get rid of this situation. Initially I had shortness of breathing which is now getting cured day by day through Yoga, Pranayam.I had problem in My right side of chest where I use to feel some pain and that pain still persists(not always). Coughing(not cough actually its phelgam) still persists and I am not able to overcome from phelgam since last 2 years. Just after food every day I have phelgam. I feel throat irritation and discomfort. But most of My problem have been reduced through Yoga and Pranayam.I want to continue with that without taking the help of any Alophatic medication. Please suggest.

Hello,

Thanks for writing in.

From your description, it`s apparent that you are suffering from Allergic disorder manifesting as Asthma and it appears to be mild intermittent asthma. Beside this you are also suffering from a condition called Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease where in acid from the stomach regurgitates into the throat and lungs and can cause or aggravate asthma symptoms like cough and breathlessness. Pain on your right side could be muscular in nature because of coughing and on the left could be because of GERD.

I do hope that all the investigations that you have undergone are with in normal limits as you have not made a mention of that. I also hope that you are not a smoker. If you are a smoker you should quit smoking immediately. It`s good to know that you are able to control your symptoms by doing Yoga. You may continue the same as pranayam ( XXXXXXX breathing ) and a disciplined way of life definitely help asthma patient. However i would like to suggest that if your symptoms get aggravated any time, you should take Montair LC and some medicines in the form of inhalers like aerocort or seroflo as a short course and then taper them off. You should also take treatment for your GERD (acidity and gastritis). This will also help control your symptoms of cough, phlegm and breathlessness. You should avoid spicy food and any other allergens known to you.

Continue taking treatment for your BP but avoid ACE inhibitors (enalapril, ramipril) as they are known to induce cough in some patients.
Hope I have addressed your concerns. Let me know if I can be of any more helps

Thank You so much Madam for Your quick response. But still I am a bit confused with the terminology ACE inhibitors (enalapril, ramipril). One more thing I forgot to mention in the previous session that some time I feel My phelgem does have smell. I felt it for 10/15 days but now its reduced. 2 days back I also did My SPUTUM for AFB and GRAM STAIN test but those results reported negative. I also undergone a blood test . Everything was fine except AEC which was reported 450 (supposed to be in between 40-4440). Do I need to have any appointment or do some other test.I came to know that there is no permanent solution for this disesse in Allophatic treatment. Should I continue in Ayurvedic and is this a serious issue or Can Get rid of the situation.Doctors always keep on saying me one thing that it will take time to recover. Please suggest and what should be My food habit and what are those. I would be glad to receive Your next reply.

Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
ACE inhibitors are a group of drugs used very commonly for treating BP. However they may some times induce cough in some patients, hence they should be avoided in patients of asthma and allergy if possible. I would like to know the medication you're receiving for your high blood pressure. Then I'll be able to guide you better about this.

Your ACE levels appear to be normal as per the range given by you. ( ACE levels depend on the age and the method used for testing).

Foul smell in the phlegm could be because of some pocket of infection in the lungs. Since your x XXXXXXX chest is normal it may go away with a course of antibiotics, steam inhalation, XXXXXXX breathing and chest physiotherapy. If it still bothers you, get a CT scan chest done which may throw some more light on your lung condition though I personally feel that you can wait for some more time.
As far as the food habits are concerned, take a healthy and balanced diet. You will need to restrict papad, chutney and pickles for the high blood pressure. Also, restrict oil and sugar in your diet. This will help you manage your blood pressure well. Unless you're allergic to some foods ( common items include peanuts, milk, egg, soya, wheat), you can pretty much eat everything you want.
Hope this helps
Let me know if I can help further

Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

TelmaH is not an ACE inhibitor and is not likely to cause cough. Very rarely, it can cause an allergy. You don’t need to get another X-ray or CT scan done. You can continue taking the medications as advised.

I practice in New Delhi at the following address

Arcus poly clinic sector 4 center market Dwarka New Delhi

I am also available Bensups hospital sector 12 dwarka New Delhi.
