Having Heavy Bleeding During Periods. Had One Normal And One C-section Delivery. Cause? Cure?
Thanks for writing to us. I am trying to solve your problem.
Heavy menstrual bleeding is called menorrhagia in medical term. There are several reasons behind this like:
1) Unnoticed fibroid/ endometrial polyp/ adenomyosis
2) Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB)- without specific pathology.
3) Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), endometriosis- both painful.
4) Other- hormonal imbalance, inserting IUD or using other contraceptive method, thyroid disturbance, high BP etc.
In this scenario, you need to consult with gynecologist for complete health check up including pelvic examination. Some relevant investigations like pelvic ultrasound, hormone assay, endometrial tissue biopsy following D & C etc may be required to pinpoint the diagnosis.
Proper treatment depends on underlying etiology. There are several modalities to treat your condition either medically or surgically. Tranexamic acid group of drug are quite useful to arrest bleeding temporarily.
In the interim, do the following things:
1) Take healthy diet with vitamin & iron supplements. Drink plenty of water/ fluid.
2) Keep your bowel habit regular & maintain personal hygiene properly.
3) Do regular physical exercise to control body weight and always take sound sleep.
4) Try to avoid stress by yoga or meditation or deep breathing exercise regularly.
Hope, I have answered your query. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Wish your good health & take care yourself.
Regards,
Dr Soumen.
