Question: Can a patient with an upper respiratory infection be given ativan for anxiety?

Thanks for your query.

Ativan contains Lorazepam which is a Benzodiazepine and is known to cause respiratory depression in patients with severe obstructive lung disease like acute severe asthma.Precaution has to be taken if to be given in person with lower upper respiratory tract infection does not cause any harm,unless the person is allergic to the drug.
