Hello Doctor! Am 16 Weeks Pregnant And This Is My First Pregnancy I Had Mild Brown To Black Old Blood Bleeding Continued For 3 Weeks Am I At The Risk Of Miscarriage Or Preterm Labor?

Question: Hello Doctor! Am 16 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy... I had mild brown to black old blood bleeding starting around 12 weeks. My doc ordered for a scan, baby was fine and she said nothing to worry about. She didn't do internal exam or check my cervix even after demanding for it multiple times. No check for uti too. This brown discharge continued for 3 weeks. Last week we went to another doc for a second opinion after getting increased discharge with hip and back pain... The new doc checked my cervix through speculum and mentioned that lot of brown discharge and that my external os is open. I had urgent transvaginal scan and cervix measured 4.3 cm. Then she made me admit immediately and put on ritrodine and antibiotics for 2 days since uti was confirmed after lab test. Now that the diacharge is gone and am feeling fine now...but worried about my external os being open so early and this is first pregnancy too. Am I at the risk of miscarriage or preterm labour??

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If the cervix measures 4.3 mm, it is highly unlikely that your external os is open.
The ultrasound report should clearly mention the length of the cervix as well as whether the internal and external os is closed.
Could you upload the report?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks.

Hello Doctor. In ultrasound, my cervix length measured 4.4 cm and internal os is closed. When my doctor checked cervix for infection, she inserted her finger and told me that external cervix is open and that it shouldn't be so if it is your first pregnancy. Anyways I have attached the report. Please advise.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
External os, if it was open, would have led to a miscarriage by now.
I am fairly sure it cannot be open.
Unable to view the ultrasound report ?
Could you check again with the customer care team if it is attached ?
Thanks.

I have attached it again for your reference doctor. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
The cervix is long and closed.
The doctor was wrong, if the external os was open, the report would have mentioned it.
Do not worry about it anymore.
Thanks.
