How Are PCOS And Hirsutism Treated ?

Thanks for posting your query.
Since you have a medical history of PCOS, the irregular periods and body hair (hirsutism) are due to PCOS itself. PCOS is a hormonal problem which causes multiple symptoms like infertility, secondary amennorhea, obesity and weight gain, increased insulin levels and resistance, hypertension, acne, hirsutism, multiple small cysts in the ovary etc.
At times losing weight alone is not sufficient for PCOS. You need treatment also for the irregular periods and hirsutism. To correct menstrual cycle problems, birth control hormones help a lot.
If weight loss and birth control pills do not start ovulation you may need medicines such as metformin or clomiphene to help you start to ovulate and you may need it for many months. If metformin and clomiphene do not work, gonadotropins are sometimes used.
Regarding excessive hair growth - shaving, chemical depilation by using depilatory creams, temporary epilation by plucking, tweezing, waxing and permanent epilation by electrolysis, thermolysis and laser hair removal can be helpful. You can choose a treatment after discussing it with your gynecologist/ endocrinologist.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
