Brief Answer:
Get done repeat chest x ray and PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By her history and description, we should definitely rule out
1. Lung infection
2. Bronchitis.
So get done repeat chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
If chest x ray is abnormal then CT thorax is needed.
Please let me know
1. Was she a smoker?
2. Had she ever suffer from lung disease?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your wife. Thanks.

I forgot to mention she is a non-smoker and is not exposed to any tobacco smoke.

No previous lung disease, not exposed to tobacco smoke, never smoked. Has hay fever allergies. Did you note she has had this problem for 6 months? What I was looking for was more of a differential diagnosis, Dr.

I gave you more common causes for her symptoms.
Here is the list for differential diagnosis.
1. Chronic lung infection (tuberculosis)
2. Bronchitis
3. Interstitial lung disease (ILD)
