How Can Constipation In A Child Be Treated?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jun 2017
Question: My daughter is 13 months old. She has been suffering from constipation since she was 3 months old. We give her a high fibre diet including fruits, vegetables and daliya. Also she takes coconut water daily. Her weight is 12 kg and her growth is normal and she is an active happy baby. Sometimes she is fine for weeks and then suddenly becomes constipated without any change in diet. The doctor has advised us to use suppository to soften the stool and also gutclear syrup sos. But we really don't know why the constipation returns without any reason. Her thyroid rest was done at the time of birth and was normal. Please help.

Brief Answer:
A fibre rich diet will ensure a good bowel movement.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic. Incidentally, constipation in children has become a very frequently encountered problem these days. The primary reason for the same is lack of adequate play and/or the lack of adequate amounts of fiber containing foods in diet.
