How Can Pain In The Tailbone After A Brain Hemorrhage Be Treated?
Tail bone (Coccydynia) pain management
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. Your history is suggestive of brain bleed. You recovered well. You have experienced tail bone after it. I don't think it is related with brain bleed. But it could have happened due to persistent lying posture.
Continuous posture may cause pressure and inflammation of tail bone i.e. coccyx. It can result into "Coccydynia". I am suspecting it in your case. I have seen it in few of my bedridden cases.
Coccydynia can be treated by
- Avoid activities in order to minimize exacerbation of tailbone pain. Examples include prolonged sitting (eg, long car or airplane rides) or bike riding.
- Painkiller medication like Diclofenac or other NSAID's - These medication will relieve your pain and also treat inflammation.
If conservative treatment fails, then invasive methods can be considered like
- Ganglion Block injection -Local injection of an anaesthetic (Lidocaine) can effectively block the ganglion impar and thereby relieve coccyx pain.
- Sacrococcygeal joint local anaesthetic injection can also be tried to relieve pain.
- Epidural steroid injection is another modality which can give relief.
- Surgical treatment for coccydynia includes coccygectomy, in the form of partial or complete surgical removal of the coccyx.
You can discuss all the above options with your treating doctor. First try conservative treatment as most cases respond to conservative treatment.
Hope it will help you. If still having doubts, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
