Brief Answer:
Can be a soft tissue injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

After an ankle twist, there can be a persistent pain even if there is no bone injury. This can be due to soft tissue injury and stretching of ligaments due to twisting.

Application of ointment can increase the swelling and discomfort. It is best to use an elastic brace around the ankle for complete rest so that it can heal. You can also continue giving her the pain killer and consult your doctor again in case pain and swelling are gradually increasing to rule out an infection. A local hematoma in the area can be painful and can take 7-10 days to recover. Avoid massaging the area as it can increase the internal bleeding and swelling.

I hope this answers your query.
