How Can Transverse Colon Impaction Be Treated?
Question: My ct scan showed ascending and transverse colon impaction. How is this treated?
Brief Answer:
CT SCAN REPORT IS REQUIRED
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
You are reporting that Ct scan shows impaction on your left and transverse colon.
Please can you upload to me your ct scan so I can check it by myself.
OtherwiseI would like to know which are your symptoms:
- do you have constipation?
- do you have blood in your stools?
- do you have abdominal pain?
In my clinical practise in such cases i strongly recommend to my patients to do colonoscopy to better determine large bowel.
Meantime I would suggest to avoid constipation using plenty of water, fresh fruits, vegetables and stool softener.
I am waiting your CT-scan report.
Wish you health!

Dear Dr. Klerida,
I do not have access to my ct scan. How do I get that? It clearly showed stool in the ascending and transverse colon. Should I try "colon cleanses" from the health food stores? Also, I told you that I did the colonoscopy prep with Gavilyte, then was sedated and when I woke up they told me that the Colonoscopy could NOT be completed because "Your colon had too much stool to complete the exam, but there was no blockage in the sigmoid colon or rectum. Diverticulosis was noted." This is a direct quote from my Doctor. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Dr. Klerida,
I have constipation, no blood, and some abdominal pain but not severe. XXXXXXX

Dear XXXXXXX
Thank you for clarification of your medical data.
The ct results shows that your large bowel is full of feces. Since you have constipation, it is understandable than your large bowel was full during the Ct scan.
On the other hand in such cases like you ( constipation ), colonoscopy preparation is really difficult.
Your colonoscopy preparation should start 1 week before procedure using stool softener and 1 day before the standard colonoscopy preparation is advised.
With regards to colonoscopy you are reporting that you have been diagnosed
with diverticulosis.
At the end i suggest to avoid constipation:
- use liquid diet
- take plenty of water 2-3 lt per day
- use fresh fruits and vegetables
- use olive oil 2-3 teaspoons per day
- increase physical activity
- use stool softener if needed like Metamucil.
I noticed that you are using Levothyroid. It means that you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. It is a serious issues that can cause and aggravate constipation.
This is why I strongly suggest to do T3, T4 and TSH level and after that to recheck Levothyroid dosage.
Hope it was helpful to you!
