How Can Typhoid Fever Be Treated?

Need to test again
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
In typhoid I usually prescribe a combination of cefixime and ofloxacin. In your child's case, cefixime was given first to probably avoid side effects of ofloxacin. I suggest that both be given together after consulting your doctor. Ideally antibiotics are continued until 2-3 days after fever has subsided.
Give him few days rest from antibiotics. Start combination after few days if fever is continuing.
Typhoid is tricky. Sometimes fever and weakness can continue but infection has disappeared from blood. Weakness can continue for upto 1 month after typhoid is cured. Therefore it is not good predictor of health in typhoid.
So overall health of child should be seen. If he looks better, weight is recovering, pain in abdomen is gone, no headache and fever is almost nil then antibiotics can be discontinued. If Widal titers are going down then its a good sign. Therefore repeat Widal test every 2 days and compare to previous titers.
Dont worry he will definitely recover in few days time. Give him cleaner water from RO system. Avoid outside food. Give him well cooked food at home. Also see if people who are preparing his food should not have similar symptoms. If they have symptoms, then they should be tested for typhoid and given treatment simultaneously. Raw food should be avoided. In diet I find Panchamrit very nutritional, soothing to intestines and source of probiotics. It is a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey and jaggery. If a few spoons are given empty stomach in morning it can be beneficial.
Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

You can give him vegetarian food
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
You can give him vegetarian food that you eat. To avoid typhoid in future, well cooked food is given. Avoid raw fish and meats. Give cleaner drinking water even during travels. Avoid food from unknown sources or from people who don't wash hands before preparing food.
Raw food is avoid for upto 1 month of typhoid. Soft food is better digested during typhoid.
If typhoid is not getting cured, I would suggest blood culture and sensitivity. This way we will be able to find the strain of bacteria and the antibiotic it is sensitive to.
