default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, just over a week ago I took the first abortion pill mifepristone. I 9 weeks pregnant and I had a huge change of heart so went for a scan 4 days later and the baby is still alive with a good heartbeat. Can I still keep my baby? I'm aware of possible abnormalities but has anyone had a baby and can prove there is a chance it will be ok?

Brief Answer:
Yes, there have been reports of successful pregnancies

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Yes, you can keep your baby, if you are making an informed decision and taking a calculated risk.
The risk of abnormalities that your child could have is higher than average, and you must know that.
As long as you are willing to take that chance, you can go ahead and continue your pregnancy.
Yes, there have been women who have had successful and uneventful pregnancies, and a healthy baby, after taking Mifepristone in early pregnancy.
SO you can take heart.

Remember to take proper supplements of progesterone for a few days, and folic acid throughout the first trimester ( 5 mg per day ) to minimize your chances of a miscarriage / anomalous fetus.
I wish you luck with your decision.
May god bless you !
Take care.
